Enhanced stiffness modeling of manipulators with passive joints

چکیده
The paper presents a methodology to enhance the stiffness analysis of serial and parallel manipulators with passive joints. It directly takes into account the loading influence on the manipulator configuration and, consequently, on its Jacobians and Hessians. The main contributions of this paper are the introduction of a non-linear stiffness model for the manipulators with passive joints, a relevant numerical technique for its linearization and computing of the Cartesian stiffness matrix which allows rank-deficiency. Within the developed technique, the manipulator elements are presented as pseudo-rigid bodies separated by multidimensional virtual springs and perfect passive joints. Simulation examples are presented that deal with parallel manipulators of the Ortholide family and demonstrate the ability of the developed methodology to describe nonlinear behavior of the manipulator structure such as a sudden change of the elastic instability properties (buckling).

Enhanced stiffness modeling of serial manipulators with passive joints
The chapter focuses on the enhanced stiffness modeling and analysis of serial kinematic chains with passive joints, which are widely used in parallel robotic systems. In contrast to previous works, the stiffness is evaluated for the loaded working mode corresponding to the static equilibrium of the elastic forces and the external wrench acting upon the manipulator end point. It is assumed that ...
متن کاملStiffness Analysis of Parallel Manipulators with Preloaded Passive Joints
The paper presents a methodology for the enhanced stiffness analysis of parallel manipulators with internal preloading in passive joints. It also takes into account influence of the external loading and allows computing both the non-linear “load-deflection” relation and the stiffness matrices for any given location of the end-platform or actuating drives. Using this methodology, it is proposed ...
متن کاملNonlinear Effects in Stiffness Modeling of Robotic Manipulators
Abstract—The paper focuses on the enhanced stiffness modeling of robotic manipulators by taking into account influence of the external force/torque acting upon the end point. It implements the virtual joint technique that describes the compliance of manipulator elements by a set of localized six-dimensional springs separated by rigid links and perfect joints. In contrast to the conventional for...
متن کاملKinematic and dynamic analysis of lower-mobility cooperative arms
This paper studies the modeling and analysis of a system with two cooperative manipulators working together on a common task. The task is defined as the transportation of an object in space. The cooperative system is the dual-arm of the humanoid robot Nao, where the serial architecture of each arm has five degrees of freedom. The kinematics representing the closed chain system is studied. The m...
متن کاملModular and Recursive Kinematics and Dynamics for Parallel Manipulators
Constrained multibody systems typically feature multiple closed kinematic loops that constrain the relative motions and forces within the system. Typically, such systems possess far more articulated degrees-of-freedom (within the chains) than overall end-effector degrees-of-freedom. Thus, actuation of a subset of the articulations creates mixture of active and passive joints within the chain. T...
